Activists from across the political spectrum in Scotland engaged in a lively debate at the Scottish Morning Star Conference yesterday focusing on fighting fascism, cuts and promoting the People's Charter.
Leading figures from the progressive movement highlighted ways in which the charter could be used to tempt people away from the clutches of fascism.
The next 12 months will be a "year of action" against mounting cuts to jobs, services and attacks on pay and conditions, RMT leader Bob Crow has forecast.
Mass job cuts hanging over the heads of thousands of workers in 2010 are a sign "employers will continue to try and force the workers to pay for the economic crisis," Mr Crow told members in an end-of-year message.
